LIFE an independent residential program for adults

LIFE, Learning, Independence, Friendships and Empowerment, is a supportive residential program which includes residential habilitation and social skill training to provide the essential skills that consumers need to move from living at home with their families to living independently. This program increases an individual’s independence through community integration and the empowerment of learning the skills necessary for successful independent living and creating friendships.

Clients receive individualized services so that they can live independently in the apartment and geographic area of their choice in Onondaga County. They receive approximately 15-18 hours of residential habilitation services weekly which may include help with budgeting, cooking, accessing public transportation, safety issues of living alone, etc. Additionally, they participate in a social/recreation group where they are able to interact with other individuals with learning disabilities and use some of the skills they have learned. Clients also receive assistance in paying their rent through the LIFE program.
